Hi, I'm Eliza

Intro

I recently began working as a research associate at MIT’s Political Methodology Lab. As an undergraduate honors student at Brigham Young University, I majored in political science, minored in international strategy and diplomacy, and was selected to be the department's August 2018 valedictorian. At BYU, I wrote an original survey administered in Ukraine which employed survey experiments to gauge citizens’ attitudes toward economic reforms. I presented this original research at the 2017 annual American Political Science Association’s annual meeting. I worked as a collaborator with BYU’s Political Economy and Development Lab (PEDL) and am currently co-authoring a paper with Dan Nielson, discussing what motivates NGOs to participate in evaluations based on a global field experiment of 50,000 NGOs.

Research interests include post-conflict development; political economy of conflict; quantitative methods; field experiments; gender and transitional justice

Personal

I was born in St. Louis, MO, grew up overseas in Guam, England, and Germany, and went to high school in CA, TX, and FL before going to school in UT. I also lived in northern Belgium and the Netherlands for 18 months during college. While growing up overseas initially sparked my fascination with how nations, institutions, and individuals interact, interesting research opportunities and rigorous statistical training have refined my interest in a research career. When I'm not cleaning datasets or puzzling over global issues, in my spare time I enjoy telling puns, cooking (and sampling) curry, exploring farmers markets, embarking on road trips, and adventuring outdoors. I have four siblings - including an identical twin sister.
